The Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) Australia chapter is recognised as the Best Overseas Chapter, and was declared on the 59th IEB convention day held in IEB Headquarter, Ramna, Dhaka, between 1-5 March 2019. There are 10 (ten) IEB overseas chapters including USA, Singapore, Malaysia, Dubai and others, and Australia chapter became best among them.
The selection process for the recognition was required to submit yearly activities by the overseas chapter to the committee for consideration. The Australia chapter has conducted many activities in FY 2018/2019 including organizing first time Engineers Australia (EA) and IEB joint Chartered Professional Engineering (CPEng) seminar for 120 Bangladeshi engineers held at EA auditorium Sydney on 4th December 2018 and special keynote speech at IEB headquarter, Dhaka by Dr. AHM Kamruzzaman (secretary of IEB Australia chapter) on 6th February 2019.
In the CPEng seminar, honourable CEO of EA Mr. Peter McIntyre, H.E. Bangladesh High Commissioner Mohammad Sufiur Rahman, secretary of IEB Australia chapter Dr. AHM Kamruzzaman, chairman of IEB Australia chapter Mr. Abdul Matin and few prominent engineers delivered insightful speeches on “How chartered professional Bangladeshi engineer can bring strong bilateral relation between these two countries, in particular getting full signatory of Washington Accord Accreditation for IEB accredited engineering universities”.
The keynote speech at IEB headquarter by Dr. AHM Kamruzzaman was addressed on the topic of “Application of deep soil mixed columns for bridge approach embankment and piles on soft clay”. The presentation was overwhelmingly accepted by engineers working on many mega civil engineering projects in Bangladesh.
In consideration of all these activities conducted by IEB Australia chapter, the chairman Mr. Abdul Matin received “Best Overseas Chapter” award from the Honourable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
